Homeopathy stands as a cornerstone in holistic medicine, boasting a rich history and global recognition for its efficacy in treating a wide array of acute and chronic conditions. With over 200 million adherents worldwide, it has garnered immense popularity for its unique approach to healing. At the heart of homeopathy lies the fundamental principle of ‘like cures like,’ a concept deeply rooted in the history of medicine across diverse cultures. This principle posits that substances capable of producing symptoms in healthy individuals can also alleviate similar symptoms in those who are unwell.
Central to homeopathic philosophy is the belief in the body’s innate ability to heal itself, a concept underscored by the vital response mechanism. This natural healing process, intrinsic to all living organisms, serves as the foundation upon which homeopathic remedies operate. By administering substances that mimic the symptoms experienced by the patient, homeopathy aims to stimulate the body’s vital response, empowering it to combat illness and restore balance. This holistic approach not only addresses the symptoms but also targets the underlying causes of disease, fostering long-term wellness and vitality.

Course Key Topics
the Homeopathy (Level 3) course is divided into 10 modules.
Module 1: The history and origins of homeopathy
This unit explores the background and historical origins of homeopathy and its associated practices. It discusses key proponents of homeopathy through the centuries and also examines how it is used around the world and in different contexts. Also in this first unit the basic principles of homeopathy will be discussed, and key terminology explained, in preparation for subsequent units.
Module 2: Essential anatomy and physiology. Part 1
This unit focuses on the principles of homeostasis related to anatomy and physiology. The study of these principles will help students to gain knowledge and understanding relating to human growth, development and maintenance of wellbeing. The student will learn to transfer this knowledge and understanding to concepts and approaches associated with homeopathic applications. In this part, the cardiovascular, respiratory and musculoskeletal systems are studied.
Module 3: Essential anatomy and physiology. Part 2
This unit continues from unit 2 and examines the anatomy and physiology of the central nervous system, organs of digestion, reproduction and hormone control – and the relevance of these processes to homeostatic maintenance.
Module 4: Essential anatomy and physiology. Part 3
This unit continues from unit 3, examining the anatomy and physiology of body systems and their role in homeostasis, with special focus on the sense organs and urinary system. The unit provides students with an opportunity to examine the external influences on homeostasis as well as develop an understanding of genetic inheritance.
Module 5: Homeopathic remedies
In this unit, students gain the opportunity to explore the myths and misconceptions surrounding homeopathy. Additionally, it focuses on issues such as over-prescribing, symptoms confusion and documentation, the placebo effect and also several key issues within assessing and prescribing. The dosage and potency levels are explained, as are the efficient storage and dispensing of remedies.
Module 6: Materia medica and repertory. Part 1
Units 6, 7 and 8 involve study of the materia medica and repertory. These refer to the alphabetised lists of remedies, their application, dosage and precise instructions for use. These constitute an in-depth source of knowledge relating to therapeutic properties of substances used for healing purposes.
Both external and internal remedies are explained, as well as some ailments and conditions for which each remedy is recommended.
Module 7: Materia medica and repertory. Part 2
This unit continues from unit 6 in its exploration of the materia medica and repertory, referring to the lists of remedies, their application, dosage and instructions for use. More ailments and conditions for which each remedy is recommended are discussed in detail in this unit.
Module 8: Materia medica and repertory. Part 3
This unit follows the previous two in its examination of the materia medica and repertory, concluding this part of the course. Again, both external and internal remedies will be discussed, as well as example ailments and conditions for which each remedy is recommended. Integrated within each ailment are symptoms and assessment indications when preparing and prescribing remedies.
Module 9: Prescribing guidelines and contraindications
This unit provides students with an opportunity to examine guidelines for homeopathic practice and application of remedies, and also encourages them to consider the wider implications of prescribing.
Important elements of successful practice are examined in order that students are able to identify symptoms correctly and differentiate between types of ailments. These include differential diagnosis of certain conditions, identification of cases for further referral, conditions that are not recommended for homeopathic treatment alone – and specific causes for concern.
Module 10: Case histories and symptom assessment
This unit focuses on taking client case histories and the efficient categorisation of symptoms in order to establish the most appropriate remedy and its dosage. Example cases are presented as well as a sample chart.
