Course Overview

Embark on a transformative learning journey with the UK’s most innovative home study provider, offering courses designed to unlock your true potential and facilitate the career change you desire. Access our distance learning courses directly from anywhere, anytime, and acquire industry-recognised Professional Qualifications essential for advancing in your career.

Specifically, explore the flexible and convenient Flower Remedies (Level 3) course, an ideal way to gain a diploma qualification. Whether you aim for further education, improved job prospects, or expanded knowledge, this comprehensive course allows you to prepare thoroughly for exams or careers through home study. Plus, it’s structured to be accessible and beneficial even if you have no prior knowledge in Flower Remedies.

Flower remedies are specially prepared flower essences, containing the healing energy of plants. They are prescribed according to a patient’s emotional disposition, as ascertained by the therapist, doctor, or individuals themselves.
Flower remedies are more homeopathic than herbal in the way they work, addressing energy levels rather than chemical balances. The remedies work on the principle that they encapsulate the flowers’ healing energy, and are said to deal with and overcome negative emotions, and so relieve blockages in the flow of human energy that can cause illness or imbalance.

This Level 3 Diploma in Flower Remedies will be ideal for those looking to study Flower Remedies to therapist level. You will discover the fundamentals of flower remedy therapy, from assessment of area of need, to interviewing and prescribing appropriate remedies. The course is suitable for students with little or no basic knowledge of flower remedies. It not only covers theoretical knowledge and understanding but also practitioner approaches and remedy prescribing, providing a thorough holistic overview of the therapy.

 Course Key Topics

the Flower Remedies (Level 3) course is divided into 10 modules.

Module 1: What are Flower Remedies?
This module explores the historical origins of Flower Remedies and draws comparisons between alternative and complementary medicine with conventional medicine, placing the practice within the correct context. Within the module, there is an opportunity to study the nature of flower essences and particularly the work of Hahnemann, the concept of Vital Force – and its physiological function.

Module 2: Dr. Edward Bach’s Contribution
This module provides an opportunity to study the biography of Dr. Edward Bach and through discussion of his works identify the timeline for Flower Remedy practice as it stands today. There is discussion relating to Dr. Bach and his interest in astrology, personality types, responses, habits and life lessons – all of which contribute to the application of modern Flower Remedy practice. He asserted that a flower essence possesses the vibrational energy of the flower it is derived from. Nosodes are also discussed and there is incorporated content on oral remedies refined from bacterial vaccines; the differences between flower remedies and homeopathy and the relationship of flowers to herbs. This module also explains the misunderstandings and myths associated with Flower Remedies.

Module 3: The Healers and the Helpers
This module explores how remedies are clustered, which ‘moods’ they apply to and how practitioners consider their administration. Sections include: the twelve healers, the twelve states, the seven helpers, fear, uncertainty, insufficient interest in present circumstances, loneliness, oversensitivity to influences and ideas, despondency and despair and over concern for the welfare of others.

Module 4: Types and Groups
This module progresses from the previous one and focuses on the following issues of interest: the thirteen remedies – corresponding with an individual’s state of mind, remedy typology – relating to an individual’s characteristics, and five flower remedies. These are rescue remedies and apply to fear and worry, depression and hope, confidence, particular occurrences, relationships and action. The rationale of knowledge and understanding of flower remedies related to diagnosis and in-depth prescribing is explored further.

Module 5: The 38 Essences
This module provides students with a comprehensive list in alphabetical order of the 38 essences used in flower remedy applications, their uses and relationships to symptoms. This provides practitioners with a comprehensive resource guide.

Module 6: Systems, Dosage and Strength
In this module, the background of flower remedy systems is explored and provides a base for discussion of common usage, relating to demography and the general knowledge that practitioners require to support practical application of this discipline. There is also exploration of the techniques and implements used in the practical creation of flower remedies, including methods of essence production, the Mother Tincture, potency, storage and how doses are established.

Module 7: Repertory
The repertory is explained as an index of symptoms taken and corresponding flower remedies, dosages, indications etc. for moods. It is provided for the student, and arranged in alphabetical order, providing the practitioner with an invaluable resource base for consultation.

Module 8: Interviewing and Questionnaires
The importance of assessing individual client needs accurately is a fundamental part of any practice, as is recording remedies given, doses and effects. This module provides the student with information on how to obtain an accurate client history and understand the correlating ‘moods’ of an individual. This is normally done through a format of questions, providing a checklist of symptoms from which practitioners can consider the corresponding remedies. Information includes: catalyst matching, marking questions, methods of interviewing clients, practitioner responsibilities, case studies, listening skills, example questionnaires, self-prescribing, and the correct use of the repertory.

Module 9: Special Circumstances
There are occasionally circumstances and groups of individuals who fall outside the more usual repertory and examples. This module examines the requirements and practical applications for using flower remedies with babies, children and pets. Issues covered include: plot essences, personal control, additional remedies, practitioner tools and strategies for working with these individuals.

Module 10: Practice, Care and Storage
The final module addresses important features of practice. These include the administration of remedies – how are they given, any contra-indications and issues such as the correct hygienic standards etc. There is a section dedicated to guidance about perfect storage of the remedies. Additional facts, frequently asked questions and answers and form templates are provided to help practitioners begin to collate administrative processes ready for receiving clients.

Career Profile - Homeopath

Career Profile

You need an analytical approach combined with creativity and intuition along with a good business head to be a successful homeopath

Homeopathy is a complementary and alternative medicine and is based on the principle that ‘like treats like’. In practice, this means that substances that can cause certain symptoms can be used in small doses to relieve those symptoms. A process of dilution and shaking, called succussion, is often used as homeopaths believe that the more a substance is diluted in this way, the better it can treat symptoms.

As a homeopath, you’ll see patients with a range of physical and psychological health issues such as:

* allergies e.g. food allergy or hay fever
* arthritis
* asthma
* depression or anxiety.

Remedies are usually given in tablet, powder or liquid form.

You will take a holistic approach to your patients, looking at the underlying causes of the illness and not just the symptoms, and will address a range of physical, emotional and psychological conditions to determine a treatment plan.

Responsibilities
As a Homeopath, you’ll need to:

* carry out initial consultations with patients to learn their detailed case history
* decide on the best use of homeopathic remedies to treat a range of conditions
* monitor and evaluate patient progress
* instruct patients about the use and effects of particular remedies and respond to any queries they may have
* advise on lifestyle issues, such as diet, exercise and mental health
* refer patients to other health practitioners, as appropriate
* keep detailed clinical notes and records for each patient
* research medical conditions and homeopathic remedies
* run seminars and presentations for groups in the community, or for other health practitioners, to promote homeopathy.

As most homeopaths are self-employed, you’ll also need to carry out activities related to running a business such as administrative tasks, book-keeping and marketing.

Salary

Most homeopaths are self-employed so your income will depend on factors such as the price you charge per hour, the number of patients you attract and your running costs and overheads.

* You’re likely to charge around £30 to £125 for an initial consultation, with the cost of any treatments you provide on top of this. Follow-up sessions are typically half the cost as they’re shorter.
* The amount you’re able to charge will depend on your experience and reputation. Location will also be a factor, with fees being higher in London.
* Your income on starting out may be very low due to the initial costs of setting up a business and your limited client base. Some homeopaths have a second job alongside their clinical work to supplement their income until their practice is fully established.

Income figures are intended as a guide only.

Working Hours

You’ll typically be self-employed and will set your own hours. Many homeopaths offer appointments between the hours of 9am to 5pm, although you may have to be flexible to suit your clients’ needs. For example, you may choose to work some evenings or weekends.

Initial consultations will usually take between one and two hours with follow-up consultations lasting between 20 and 45 minutes.

What to expect

* You may need to have an additional job in the early stages of setting up a practice, until your client base becomes large enough to sustain a regular income. The time taken to build up a practice varies as you’ll need to assess the local market and raise awareness of your services.
* Work is done on a one-to-one basis and can take place in your own home, from an alternative therapy clinic or sometimes in a GP practice.
* Jobs are available in most areas of the UK and it’s possible to set up a practice virtually anywhere.
* You’re not likely to spend much time travelling or staying away overnight, although you may travel locally, for example if you’re working from several locations.
* There may be opportunities to work abroad and some countries in particular, such as India, have a larger practice of homeopathy. If you want to work abroad, check local regulations as in some countries only medically-qualified homeopaths can practise legally.

Skills
You’ll need to have:

* well-developed interpersonal, communication and listening skills for case-taking and patient management
* an open, non-judgemental approach and the ability to gain patients’ trust
* sensitivity, maturity and resilience to cope with the emotional demands of patient consultations
* an analytical approach combined with creativity and intuition for choosing the appropriate treatment
* in-depth knowledge of remedies, and an understanding of disease processes
* the ability and confidence to promote and run your own practice
* business skills such as admin, marketing and book keeping if running your own practice.

Career prospects

Learning to manage a practice takes time and you must be committed to developing a role in which, for the short and medium term, salary levels and numbers of clients may be low. Success depends on your ability to establish and build your reputation, which in turn depends largely on the amount of effort you put into building and marketing your business.

Once established, you may decide to train in other alternative therapies to complement your homeopathic practice. These may include aromatherapy, kinesiology, acupuncture, naturopathy, herbalism, reflexology and reiki.

With experience, you may find teaching opportunities at one of the colleges offering homeopathic courses or complementary therapy courses offering modules in homeopathy.

There are also some opportunities to get involved in research or journalism in the homeopathic field, or to help in the manufacture of homeopathic products.

Grading & How it Works

The UK has a unique higher education grading system. Its most unique feature compared to traditional grading systems is that it aims to be more specific in describing students’ academic achievement.

This type of assessment method is highly valued because it offers many advantages. Most importantly it highlights your academic strengths and specific skills, therefore, it helps employers gain a better understanding of your true potential.

Since it is proved to be such an efficient tool to assess students’ performance, many foreign countries like Canada, Australia and India are using the same grading system on some occasions with small changes to fit into their own local educational context.

We use a letter grade scale from A to F to indicate the students’ academic performance. If you get an A it means you have shown outstanding knowledge whereas if you get an F it means your score is not sufficient to pass the exam.

The Flower Remedies (Level 3) course stands out as an exceptional learning experience. Dr. Edward Bach's contributions, as explored in Module 2, provided a deep understanding of flower remedy practice today. Module 8's focus on interviewing and questionnaires equipped me with essential skills for assessing client needs accurately. The course's versatility in addressing special circumstances, as seen in Module 9, demonstrates its practical applicability. The final module's guidance on practice, care, and storage ensures that aspiring therapists are well-prepared for real-world scenarios. A well-structured and comprehensive course that I highly recommend to anyone interested in flower remedies.
