Career Profile
Health service managers are responsible for the financial, strategic and daily operations of running a hospital, GP practice or community health service
As a health service manager, you’ll work in either an NHS setting or the private healthcare sector, and your key responsibility will be to manage the cost, delivery and quality of healthcare services.
You’ll work with both clinical and non-clinical staff, as well as other partner organisations, while considering the demands of political policy and local circumstances.
The work you do varies depending on the area you specialise in. For example, you could manage an ambulance service, GP practice or community health service team, be responsible for a division of staff and a multi-million pound budget in a hospital trust or manage mental health services across many sites.
Types of health service manager work
A range of managerial roles exists within health services across many areas, including:
* clinical practice, working alongside clinician colleagues
* patient consultation

Responsibilities
As a health service manager, you’ll need to:

* The starting salary for the NHS Graduate Management Training Scheme 2024 intake is £27,701 (plus the Higher Cost of Living Allowance, or HICA, where applicable), increasing to £29,832 after 12 months. Graduates also receive a fully financially supported study package and NHS pension entitlement.
* The average salary in a first NHS role on leaving the scheme is around £44,000, depending on your area of work.
* At the most senior levels of management (for example director or chief executive), your salary can be more than £100,000.

Leadership responsibility starts early, and your career should advance quickly. It’s possible to move into director or chief executive roles within ten years of completing your training.

Course QualificationsThis is a dual-certification course and you will therefore receive two qualifications. This course is certified by Open Learning College via the Open Pathway Accreditation Programme & NCFE CACHE.
NCFE CACHE (Council for Awards in Care, Health and Education) are a leading awarding organisation specialising in in the care and education sector. CACHE endorse a range of qualifications to individuals and organisations throughout the UK and internationally.
At the end of this course successful learners will receive a Level 3 NCFE certificate of achievement. That means that it is independently accredited at a level of learning equivalent to Level 3 on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF) for England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
Accreditation by NCFE is a guarantee of quality. It means that this learning programme has been scrutinised and approved by an independent panel of experienced educational professionals and is quality audited biannually by NCFE.
NCFE is recognised as an awarding body by the qualification regulators (‘regulators’) for England, Wales and Northern Ireland. The regulators are the Office of the Qualifications and Examinations Regulator (Ofqual) in England, the Department for Children, Education, Lifelong Learning and Skills (DCELLS) in Wales and the Council for Curriculum, Examinations and Assessment (CCEA) in Northern Ireland.

How do I get help with my course work?
You can get help by submitting a question to your tutor via the online portal and by submitting your assignments for marking. You must send your assignments one at a time so the tutor can mark one and give you feedback.
Will I get a qualification at the end?
Our courses provide you with a dual certification upon successful completion of the course. You will receive an Open Pathway Accreditation (OPA.dip) from our college. The second qualification will be awarded by the Ofqual awarding body for the course.
Will I have to sit an examination?
Most of our courses do not require you to sit examinations, only continual assessments. Where there are examinations required, you will receive all the information you need to make your own exam arrangements. Please note exam fees are not included in your course fee, unless otherwise stated.
Do I have to buy any other materials?
Our comprehensive course materials are designed to be self-contained with all the relevant information you require to complete the course and gain the relevant certification.
